Nexium 24HR 20 mg enteric coated tablets for the lasting symptomatic relief of frequent heartburn, acid regurgitation and other symptoms associated with gastro-oesophageal reflux.
Always take this medicine exactly as described in the Consumer Medicine Information leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist have told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. The recommended dose is one tablet a day. - Do not take more than this recommended dose of one tablet (20 mg) a day, even if you don't feel an improvement immediately. - You may need to take Nexium 24HR for a few days before experiencing the full effect. - Nexium 24HR should be taken for at least 7 days and up to 14 days. - Tell your pharmacist or doctor if you do not feel better while taking Nexium 24HR. If symptoms persist or recur within 2 weeks of completing the course, consult your doctor. Further examination may be required.
Always read the label, use only as directed. Tell your pharmacist or doctor if you notice any of the following and they worry you: nausea or vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea, headache, wind, stomach pain, skin rash, itchy skin, dizziness or dry mouth. These side effects are usually mild. Nexium is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). It works by relaxing the stomach’s natural blood vessels and allowing for easier passage of food into the stomach where it will be processed. Nexium (esomeprazole) is a common medication used to treat conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease, and heartburn.
Nexium is available in tablet form and can be taken with or without food. It may take longer for the effects to be felt.
When used to treat GERD, Nexium can reduce the production of stomach acid, which may lead to symptoms such as persistent acid reflux, and difficulty swallowing. However, with Nexium, you can take it as prescribed to help with the symptoms of GERD.
Nexium works by increasing the amount of acid produced in the stomach, which in turn decreases the acid production in the stomach. This results in less acid reflux and less irritation in the esophagus.
Nexium is usually taken once daily in the evening. You should take Nexium for at least 12 hours before your meal to allow your body to heal naturally. The effects of Nexium can last up to 24 hours.
